On the first day of our three-day journey from Old Town, FL to Topeka, KS, we made it to Jasper, AL, and spent the night. We were on the road for about 7.5 hours and did not encounter any precipitation, although the sky got increasingly cloudy as we traveled to the northwest.

Today, our goal is to reach Springfield, MO, another day of 7 – 8 hours of travel time. That will leave about 3.5 hours to reach Topeka on Wednesday morning. We plan to get an early start on Wednesday morning as the snow is forecast to begin in Topeka around noon.

Well, that’s the plan. Let’s see how it unfolds. So far, so good!

We were able to buy a gallon jug of -20F degree windshield washer fluid in Jasper last night. Maybe we’ll be able to keep the windshield free of slush and ice if we do encounter snow. We weren’t able to find any in FL rated for below-zero temperatures.

Off we go! Wish us luck.
