Yesterday, Mary Alice and I visited Shired Island Park. It is located about 10 miles north of the town of Suwannee and is maintained by Dixie County. Located on the Gulf of Mexico, it features salt water marshes, estuary pools, and a shell mound reputed to be up to 7,000 years old. There is a beautiful white sand beach, and the entire area is dotted with palm trees and sun-bleached driftwood washed up on the shore. The breeze was pretty stiff during our visit, and the scene was quite serene and beautiful. Here’s a few pictures and a couple of short videos we took during our visit.

Large Bird Wading in Shallow Water. I Think it Might be a Blue Heron.
It is Hard to See in the Photo, but Distant Clouds Looked Like a Far-Off Mountain Range.

More Driftwood.
Shell Mound Left by Native Americans. Archeologists Say it Could be Up to 7,000 Years Old.

Small Birds Feeding in Shallow Water. I Think They May be Sanderlings.
Video of Seagulls Sailing on the Stiff Breeze. Notice They are Staying in About the Same Place Without Flapping Their Wings.
Sanderlings (I Think) Along the Water’s Edge.
